You're Fat Probably Because You Can't Relax: Here's How It Works

Lack of enough relaxation may be what's keeping you fat. Some people get slim due to over stress. They never have enough time to relax and sleeping time to them is as quick as eating snacks, if they ever have time for it. But some people grow bigger and overweight with the same circumstances.

And the latter people often don't know it. They exercise and diet and yet keep getting overweight. And they wonder what keeps them like that. Experts suggested lack of enough rest and relaxation (particularly lack of sleep) as the culprit. But this e-book shows you how to relax and lose weight.

One expert, Susan Zafarlotfi, PhD, says in an article on the WebMD website that lack of sleep sabotages our diet and exercise program. When we lack sleep we lose energy during the day, and that makes us reach for more snacks to recharge with energy to keep up with work. Zafarlotfi is clinical director of the Institute for Sleep and Wake Disorders at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.

With most people's habit of eating junk food for energy snacks, it's no wonder people get fat when they can't relax enough. And if you get energy from junk, you're also likely to junk exercise for the day, and the next day, and the next, and so on.

But there's something more to relaxation deprivation than meets the eye. It's something that goes on in you. Michael Breus, sleep disorder specialist, says that because lack of sleep plunges your energy level to a critical low, it slows down your metabolism to conserve energy. So, your body's fat burning ability also slows down. But aside from that, slowed down metabolism triggers cortisol hormones to increase your appetite, because your body thinks it is losing energy and needs to build it up. So you eat more.

Thus, some people who deprive themselves of rest--particularly sleep--gain more weight. And don't you hear most people say that they need to compensate their lack of sleep by eating more? They think eating can recover what you lost in sleep. You need to remember this one thing--sleep loss can never be recovered but by sleeping. The same with rest.

Finally, when you're always too tired so that you can't relax, you often lose your appetite, right? But don't think that's the end of it. Your body is just readying itself for a grand chow. Often, when you have recovered, you'd see how your appetite feels like devouring a horse. If this becomes a lifestyle, no wonder you become fatter.
